About Me

My name is Justina Debrah-Afful, founder of Afful Crown. Born in New Jersey and raised in Ohio by Ghanaian parents, I grew up speaking “Twi” and embracing my culture. Even as a child, I had an eye for beauty and self-expression. I was the little girl who picked out her outfits, planned her hairstyles, and chose her nail polish for the week—long before it was common to do so!

At just four years old, I taught myself how to braid on a doll’s head without any guidance or tutorials. By the age of 14, I decided to take my love for hair seriously and began assisting Shadia, a stylist in Columbus, to perfect my skills in cornrows and sew-ins. That summer, I braided Shadia’s clients’ hair while she completed their sew-ins, giving me invaluable hands-on experience.

When I started college at West Virginia University, I found my calling. With few hair salons nearby, I quickly became the go-to stylist for most African American students on campus. From sew-ins to braids, relaxers, and wigs, I poured my passion into perfecting my craft. It was during this time that TouchedbyTina was born, a name gifted to me by a dear friend, Maranda.

Years later, I elevated my brand to Afful Crown. Before launching the company, I spent two years selling bundles online while continuously researching and testing products to ensure I provided the highest-quality virgin hair. After sampling over 20 vendors and dedicating months to perfecting my selection, I finally found the hair that met my standards—luxurious, easy to maintain, and designed to last.

For me, hair isn’t just a profession—it’s a passion I’ve nurtured my entire life. With over 15 years of experience, I’ve built Afful Crown as a brand that empowers women, boosts confidence, and delivers unparalleled luxury. I live, breathe, and eat hair, and I’m grateful to turn my lifelong love into a career that changes lives.

Thank you for being part of this journey!
